How often do you focus on empowering your community?
Empowering your community means serving their emotional needs.
Content that empowers is one of the 4 types of content your Facebook fans look for and respond to, and done regularly is one of the fastest ways to build a relationship of trust and respect between you and your potential clients.
One of my favourite examples of how to excel at empowering content is Marie Forleo, with her Q&A Tuesday feature. Each week, she takes a question a member of her community has asked her via social media or email, and addresses it in a short video. She then encourages further conversation among her community by inviting them to post their comments below the video either on her website, on YouTube or on Facebook.
This is a great strategy because not only does it allow Marie to consistently showcase her expertise and authority, the video format lets her community feel like they can get to know her face-to-face. Plus they know she’s on their side because she’s providing emotional support and reassurance as well as practical problem-solving advice.
How to create your own empowering content
All you need to do is to ask yourself: How can I be of service to my community today?
Here are some ideas to get you going:
1. Listen & respond
What are the most common questions you get from clients or potential clients? List them all out and create content that answers those questions, preferably with a practical exercise that enables your audience to take action right away.
2. Position yourself as an expert/leader/role model
How well does your community know you? Do they know who you are and what you stand for? Are they familiar with your values and how you live them out?
Here’s the wonderful thing about you what you offer – you’re the only one like you. And I bet you’ve got some kind of inspiring story to share about how you overcame obstacles and became empowered to get where you are right now, or to do what you do right now. Share with your community how they can do the same.
3. Go behind the scenes
This is where you get real and authentic – let your audience into a sneak peek of what goes on in your business in real life. How do you do what you do every day? How do you manage your email? How do you start your morning to ensure you get a productive day ahead? How do you pick yourself up when you’re feeling down or like a failure? Shine a light on how you empower yourself on a daily basis to overcome the challenges you face and you’ll help empower others to do the same.
This empowering content doesn’t even have to be strictly related to what you actually sell; done right, it will create connections between you and your audience and will help them get to know you.
Remember – the key to your success is to take action – what are you waiting for? Take action now.
